Providing Support for Success
Our programs help empower local kids to cultivate a love of learning, become good stewards of the community and build a positive outlook on life rooted in self-esteem and self-respect.
ACE After School Program
The ACE (Achieving Connections through Education) tutoring program supports low-income students in grades 6-8 who need help to improve achievement and behavior. Students receive assistance with homework, test prep and activities for academic growth. Students regularly attend the tutoring session and are encouraged to participate in extracurricular and community activities. ACE maintains communication with parents and teachers to support students in maintaining good grades.
A summer enrichment program for kids in the Union Square Community that includes character development activities, field trips, academic enrichment, arts and crafts, games and–most importantly–lots of fun. The program is supported by local businesses, churches and organizations and are led by volunteers. Middle-schoolers can participate in a lawn care work program and learn additional life skills.
Our program coordinator, Carol Andregg, gives students the opportunity to mow yards in the surrounding Union Square neighborhood. This service provides them a way to raise money for their 8th grade trip to Washington DC, an experience that might otherwise be unavailable to them due to financial limitations. An opportunity to work hard and make a difference in their own future has proved to be an effective way to build confidence and self-reliance.
